NURSERY & PRE-SCHOOL DEPUTY MANAGER VACANCY

Salary: From £19,543

Contract: Permanent

Hours:

Term Time: Monday - Friday 9.15am - 3.15pm

Non Term Time: Flexible 3 days 9.15am - 3.15pm

There will be opportunities to work additional hours to cover staff holidays and illness.

Newport Pre-School is part of Early Explorers Community Pre-Schools, an umbrella charity run by early years experienced trustees. We are a 36 place setting offering warm and friendly early years education to children 9months to 11 years old. We are situated in the Village Hall at the heart of the village and right next door to Newport Primary School.

We are looking for an OUTSTANDING, passionate, lively and creative manager who has experience of and commitment to high quality early years care and education, to lead our hard working team.

Do you have a sound understanding of child development and the Early Years Foundation Stage? Could you make a positive contribution to the education and development of children from a multi-ethnic, vibrant community?

The successful applicant will have an enthusiastic and proactive mindset with a positive attitude. They will have the ability to lead the team to form strong and supportive relationships with parents, children and other agencies.

You must have:

* A suitable Level 3 Early Years childcare qualification.
* Supervisory experience in an early years role.
* A minimum of 2 years experience in an early years setting
* A thorough knowledge of the EYFS, The Statutory Framework and Ofsted requirements
* Understanding of safeguarding procedures and working with vulnerable families
* Commitment to inclusive and non-discriminatory practice
* You must have very good verbal and written skills.
* Knowledge and experience of working with children with Special Educational Needs.

Desirable

* First Aid qualification
* Registered with the DBS update system

JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: DEPUTY MANAGER

RESPONSIBLE TO: The Manager

PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To provide safe, high quality education and care for pre-school children; to fulfil legal and statutory requirements; to lead and manage staff on a day-to-day basis; to contribute to and to implement Early Explorers policies.

Safeguarding requirement: Early Explorers are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. It is a requirement of all staff that they share this commitment and follow the prescribed policy and procedures to continuously promote a culture of safeguarding across the whole organisation.

MAIN DUTIES:

Early Explorer Trustees expects the manager:

1. To support the manager in drawing up curriculum plans which take into account the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage; to monitor the effectiveness of the pre-school curriculum.

2. To create a fun, stimulating and diverse environment for children encouraging them to learn and develop.

3. To lead by example, communicating and interacting appropriately with children to inspire them in their areas of learning and development.

4. To ensure that the pre-school's staff, volunteers and resources are effectively managed.

5. To be responsible for providing a high quality of teaching and learning, ensuring that staff are properly deployed and offer appropriate stimulation and support to the children.

6. To draw up and to supervise the daily programme of pre-school activities and events.

7. To support the manager in implementing systems of observation and record keeping so that children's progress and achievements are effectively and regularly assessed; to monitor the effectiveness of assessment procedures.

8. To support the manager to organise the key person system and to effectively supervise staff on a daily basis; to be responsible for monitoring the quality of teaching; to participate in staff appraisals and to identify in-service training needs.

9. To ensure records are properly maintained, e.g. daily attendance register and accident records.

10. To liaise closely with parents/carers, informing them about the pre-school and its curriculum, exchanging information about children's progress and encouraging parents' involvement.

11. To be a lead person for child protection in the pre-school and to ensure that any child protection concerns are acted upon immediately and appropriately.

12. To ensure that the pre-school is a safe environment for children, staff and others, that equipment is safe, standards of hygiene are high, health and safety procedures are implemented at all times and fire drills are regularly practised.

13. To liaise with Early Explorers Trustees, Ofsted services and other professionals as necessary and ensure that all legal and statutory requirements are implemented; to provide reports as required.

14. To contribute to and to implement all pre-school policies and procedures, especially those on equal opportunities and confidentiality.

15. To manage the pre-school in the managers absence.

16. To attend in-service training and meetings as required.

17. To undertake any other reasonable duties as directed by the manager, in accordance with the pre-school business plan/objectives.

18. To attend training courses as required, sometimes outside of normal working hours and to take responsibility for your development.

19. To ensure you arrive a few minutes in advance to commence your shift promptly at the designated start time.

20. Maintain consistent attendance at work and minimise the number of sick days taken.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and does require a criminal records check. Applicants must be prepared to disclose any convictions they may have and any orders which have been made against them.
