University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us. Please see below for a detailed description of the role.
Job Summary
Southampton Children's Hospital at UHS is recruiting a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon to replace a retiring colleague. The role is exciting and varied, working in one of the country's busiest paediatric orthopaedic units. Flexibility is available to meet your needs and specialist interests, with a particular desired skillset in paediatric limb reconstruction, neuromuscular and trauma.
Main Duties of the Job
Provide a full range of paediatric orthopaedic services both inpatient and outpatient at Southampton Children's Hospital and Dorset County Hospital (Dorchester). Participate in a 1:10 on‑call rota at Southampton to deliver a 24‑hour paediatric orthopaedic service within the Southampton paediatric Major Trauma Centre. Act as the key link person for paediatric orthopaedics at the spoke hospital. Develop your own subspecialty interest in line with departmental needs. Particular expertise in limb reconstruction and experience in neuromuscular orthopaedics is sought.
About The Team
Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery sits within the Child Health Care Group, part of the Women's and Children's Division. The unit provides general services for local children and specialist services to the tertiary population across the South coast. Admissions occur via a dedicated paediatric orthopaedic ward (6 bay HDU), paediatric day case unit, 14‑bedded PICU, high‑dependency facilities, and Emergency admissions through the Children's Emergency Department, regional referral and the paediatric medical admissions unit. Clinics are held within a dedicated orthopaedic area, supported by a plaster room and on‑site orthotics. Peripheral clinics are held in regional hospitals, and surgery is performed in a dedicated paediatric orthopaedic theatre.
