About the Role
We’re looking for a Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our office-based team in Islington. This role assists the Commercial & General Manager with commercial control & reporting on high standard Commercial activities to Housing properties, delivering best in class commercial acumen, customer service and satisfying all safety, quality and cost control standards.
Role Responsibilities
1. Support all cost, budgetary and value analysis activities across the contract.
2. Produce accurate and timely CVRs, valuations, variations and final accounts in line with contract terms.
3. Manage client invoicing and overhead reporting in collaboration with operational and finance teams.
4. Ensure efficient income recovery by processing valuation certificates and maintaining all contractual documentation.
5. Prepare documents in accordance with contract conditions and Mears’ Scheme of Delegated Authority.
6. Manage end‑to‑end subcontractor processes including order placement, certification, and payments.
7. Work in line with Mears Group procedures, our Subcontractor Portal, and payment terms.
8. Assist with pricing, target costs, tender build‑ups, task prices, variations/compensation events, measurement, interim applications and final accounts.
9. Work in full compliance with Mears budgeting and procedures.
10. Monitor and advise on KPIs, subcontract performance, and internal processes.
11. Maintain a strong customer‑first approach and uphold the highest health & safety standards.
12. Support wider business needs including meetings, training and cover for team absences.
Role Criteria
13. Minimum HNC or HND in Quantity Surveying
14. Strong understanding of building construction, contracts, and QS procedures.
15. Experience within the Social Housing sector.
16. Ability to take quantities from sketches/drawings and abstract dimensions (SMM7/NRM).
17. Strong organisational skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
18. Excellent written, verbal and IT skills.
19. Clear communication of technical and commercial information.
20. Full UK driving licence.
