Job Description / Purpose (Outline of Role Purpose)
As a Planning Engineer, you will play a key role within the project team, collaborating with stakeholders to develop, maintain, and manage project programmes. You will be responsible for producing updates and delivering reporting outputs for both internal and external audiences.
Key Responsibilities
1. Develop breakdown structures, quality criteria, product descriptions, and monitoring strategies.
2. Gather, document, and validate project assumptions to ensure plans are realistic and achievable.
3. Interface regularly with project controls to ensure alignment between financial performance and the project plan.
4. Support project delivery teams in optimising schedules through resource smoothing, resource levelling, and activity rescheduling.
5. Identify and communicate resource requirements to support project delivery.
6. Ensure stakeholder requirements are reflected and addressed within reporting outputs.
7. Provide guidance on planning processes across the full project lifecycle.
8. Contribute to continuous improvement by promoting best practice in planning and reporting.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Essential
9. Experience using Primavera P6
10. Proven ability to develop cost-loaded and resource-loaded schedules
11. Understanding of Earned Value Analysis (EVA) for project reporting
12. Proactive approach with the confidence to challenge plans and propose improvements or mitigation strategies
13. Strong numerical and analytical capability
14. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
15. Understanding of estimating, scheduling, risk, and planning tools
16. Experience in project controls and/or project delivery, ideally within a regulated environment
