The Acute Oncology Service is a nurse led service caring for patients with Acute Oncology emergencies.
Our aim is to provide expert care to allow patients to avoid hospital admissions and to manage their disease in an ambulatory setting.
We are seeking experienced senior nurses to join our team as a Senior Staff Nurse in the Acute Oncology Service.
The individuals should be motivated, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and an ability to organize, prioritize and co-ordinate within a challenging and fast paced environment. You will be supported by a strong expert team, including the Ward Sister, Nurse Practitioners, other Senior Staff Nurses and the oncology Matron team.

Main duties of the job
We are seeking experienced and motivated nurses to join our team on the Acute Oncology Service. We are seeking nurses that are eager to develop their clinical skills and competence and want to be future leaders within oncology nursing in an ambulatory setting.
You will have the opportunity to further develop and enhance your skills within a oncology setting with the support and training necessary.
We are seeking candidates with a strong desire to deliver the best individualized care to patients living cancer by working as an effective part of the nursing and wider team.
The successful candidate will need to have at extensive experience in Oncology and will be committed to developing their skills, knowledge, and leadership in a fast paced setting.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Manage a group of patients within the specialty whilst working as part of the multidisciplinary team, delivering individualised and personalised direct patient care.
Demonstrate appropriate practice and specialist advice in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. This includes history taking, physical examination and the requesting of agreed
diagnostic procedures/clinical investigations.
Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication.
Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the
speciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead others to do the same.
Act as an advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care and to meet standards within the NHS Plan and other relevant guidelines.
Ensure that patients’ receive high quality clinical care and a good patient
experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and
doctrines.

Professional/ Statutory Registration
Essential criteria
1. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 or RN Child Registered Nurse on the NMC register. To hold the appropriate level for the area of speciality.
Qualifications/ Education
Essential criteria
2. Evidence of professional/clinical knowledge in area supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD
3. Mentorship/Teaching Qualification
4. Minimum 2 year Post registration qualification in oncology
5. Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and staff management
Desirable criteria
6. Leadership qualification
7. Care of the patient with an acute oncology indication course
8. Systemic anti-cancer therapy administration and patient care
Previous experience
Essential criteria
9. Two years post registration experience within oncology
10. Experienced and competent in the management of patients within the speciality
11. Experience of teaching/assessing/ supervising others in a clinical setting.
12. Experiencing of co-ordinating a shift
Desirable criteria
13. Experience in an Acute Oncology Service
14. Experience communicating with patients on the telephone
Skills/Knowledge
Essential criteria
15. Ability to administer prescribed medication
16. Evidence of involvement and leadership in teaching and mentoring learners
17. An understanding of audit and evidence based nursing practice.
18. Good communication skills and ability to deal with sensitive information. To include dealing with distressed relatives, care of terminally ill & other challenging situations
