Job Summary
The Tour Guide will work with the Museum team to deliver engaging and informative tours which form an important part of the Museum's public programme. Responsible for meeting and greeting visitors, the Tour Guide will represent both the Museum and St John Ambulance. Professional and welcoming, they will lead tours and ensure that visitors have a positive and enjoyable experience. During the tour, they will be responsible for the safety of visitors and the security of the buildings and collections.
About the Role
The Museum of the Order of St John tells the story of the Venerable Order of Saint John from its roots as a pan-European Order of Hospitaller Knights founded in Jerusalem during the Crusades, to its present commitment of providing first aid and care in the community through St John Ambulance and running an Ophthalmic Hospital in Jerusalem. The Museum has been welcoming visitors for over a hundred years!
As Tour Guide you will play a vital role in bringing this history to life and sharing it with our audiences. You will develop an expert knowledge of the topics covered in the tours and the historic buildings in which they take place, as well as working with the Museum and Events teams to support the delivery of audience engagement and commercial events programmes. You will take care of your own health & safety and that of others, checking the routes before the tour begins and raising any concerns to the Curator or Duty Manager.
About You
You will be a pass in the Clerkenwell and Islington Tour Guide Course (Islington Guided Walks), you will have an experience of providing exemplary customer service, experience of delivering presentations to a variety of audiences, excellent verbal communication skills, with attention to detail and the ability to adapt to different audiences and a flexible approach with good interpersonal skills.
About Role
1. Champion accessible and inclusive experiences in the Museum for people of all communities and diverse backgrounds.
2. Deliver museum tours to a consistent and high standard adhering to advertised timings and approved content from the pre-written tour packs.
3. Ensure continued familiarity with the tours offered at the Museum.
4. Maintain expert knowledge of the site, the organisation and developments in the Museum and St John Ambulance to enable the seamless delivery of tours and the ability to respond to frequently asked questions.
5. Adhere to Fire Safety Legislation and Health & Safety regulations at all times.
6. Be responsible for the safety and security of all visitors, buildings and collections throughout the tour, and the evacuation of groups in an emergency.
