Drive the future of water infrastructure – lead design excellence on major programmes.
Our Client has a requirement for a Technical Design Manager, who will be required to work on a contract basis in Falmer (hybrid working with site travel).
Role Purpose:
* Lead technical design governance across water infrastructure projects
* Ensure robust engineering solutions from concept through to delivery
* Oversee design development, ensuring quality, compliance, and efficiency
* Support the delivery of cost-effective, sustainable engineering solutions
Job Role Responsibilities:
* Provide technical assurance across Design Managers and discipline engineers
* Lead solution development from initial need through optioneering and detailed design
* Ensure designs are deliverable, cost-effective, and aligned to programme requirements
* Identify and manage technical risks across the design lifecycle
* Collaborate with clients, construction teams, and supply chain partners
* Drive buildability and efficiency within design outputs
* Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and internal governance processes
* Promote innovation and continuous improvement in engineering delivery
Experience / Skills / Knowledge / Qualifications:
* Engineering background with degree qualification (or equivalent)
* Strong experience in water / wastewater infrastructure projects
* Background working in design-build or contractor environments
* Proven experience at Design Manager / Engineering Manager / Technical Lead level
* Strong understanding of design governance and technical delivery
* Commercial awareness with experience reviewing technical documentation
* Ability to manage scope changes and stakeholder expectations
Desirable:
* Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
* Experience working in joint venture environments
* Experience with offsite or modular design solutions
