Overview
We are seeking a Manager to lead the Environment Agency’s Economic Crime Unit (ECU), part of the National Environmental Crime Unit (NECU). The successful candidate will lead a specialist team dedicated to removing the financial benefit from criminals and act as the strategic lead for financial investigations under POCA. Responsibilities
* Lead the ECU and provide strategic direction for financial investigations to ensure compliance with the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Direct two Team Leaders (Asset Denial Team and Money Laundering Investigation Team) and a Senior Financial Intelligence Officer; motivate, develop, and manage performance and deliverables.
* Collaborate with internal teams (Investigatory Teams, Intelligence & Partnerships, Legal) and external partners (Police, National Crime Agency, HMRC); influence senior stakeholders to align with EA priorities.
* Support the wider organisation by sharing lessons learned, contributing to changes in technical documentation, and advising enforcement officers nationwide on POCA.
* Ensure continuous improvement in working practices and maintain a proactive approach to enforcement challenges.
Team and Environment
* The ECU comprises two teams – Asset Denial and Money Laundering Investigations – including Financial Investigators, Financial Intelligence Officers, and Crime Analysts. It is a nationally dispersed team working with enforcement staff and partners across the country, addressing serious and complex criminal activity.
Experience / Skills Required
* Exceptional leadership skills, ideally with experience leading a dispersed team.
* Solid understanding of financial investigations and the Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA).
* Experience in the law enforcement sector and understanding of the National Intelligence Model.
* Strong communication skills: delivering feedback, managing performance, and building relationships with external stakeholders.
* Ability to work under pressure, prioritise a varied workload, and identify areas for improvement to lead changes in working practices.
* Experience developing and enhancing the capability of a team and its individuals.
Additional Information
* This is a hybrid role with flexible working from home and your nearest office; travel across the country for meetings and operational duties may be required. Incident response is a central part of the role; you may be required to respond to incidents or provide business continuity support, which may attract additional payment.
