Apprentice - Pre-Registration Trainee Pharmacy Technician
The Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship provides fully funded training, nationally recognised qualification, and a salary while you learn.
After completing the programme, you can register with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC) as a qualified Pharmacy Technician.
This role suits those interested in science, healthcare, and IT, and who want to make a positive impact.
Training is intensive and requires strong motivation, commitment, and organisation.
You’ll need to complete around 10-15 hours of home study each week alongside your job.
Good communication, attention to detail, time management, and the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines are essential.
The role includes working evenings, weekends, and bank holidays.
Applicants must meet all apprenticeship eligibility criteria, including four GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 4-9 / A-C* in English Language, Maths, and Science.
These must be clearly listed on the application form; those who do not meet the criteria will not be shortlisted.
Candidates who already hold a Level 3 (or higher) Pharmacy qualification are not eligible for apprenticeship funding.
Main duties of the job
Supervised duties will include:
* Labelling, dispensing and accuracy checking a variety of prescriptions using our electronic prescribing system.
* Learning how different medicines work and what they are used to treat.
* Ordering, receiving and maintaining pharmaceutical stock.
* Providing excellent customer care and maintaining confidentiality while dealing with patients, staff and the public.
* Counselling patients on how to use their medicines safely.
* Working directly with patients on wards and in clinics to ensure safe medicines use both while in hospital and on discharge.

Person Specification
QUALIFICATIONS
* 4 GCSE's (or equivalent) at grade A* - C / 4-9 to include Mathematics, English Language and two relevant Science subjects
* NVQ2 Pharmacy Services / BTEC2 Pharmacy Certificate or equivalent Level 2 Pharmacy qualification.
* Over the Counter (OTC) sales qualification.
Experience
* Customer care experience.
* Experience of e-learning.
* Dispensing experience.
Skills & Knowledge
* Ability to complete accurate calculations.
* Ability to work effectively under pressure.
* Aware of and works within own limitations.
* Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
* High levels of accuracy - Pays attention to detail with periods of prolonged concentration.
* Able to work in patient facing environments e.g. talking to patients on the wards.
* Able to maintain strict confidentiality.

Special Requirements
* Ability to work hours as rota stipulates including bank holiday, late nights and weekends on a rotational basis.
* Ability to travel between Frimley Park, Wexham Park and Heatherwood sites.
* Cannot hold a Level 4 qualification or above, unless the qualification is "materially different" from the Apprenticeship in Pharmacy framework.
* Cannot be enrolled onto another government funded programme.
* Must live and work in England and have been a resident in the EU for a minimum of 3 years.

Job offer compensation
£29,812 to £32,715 a year per annum incl HCAS (on Annex 21)
