Job Title: Trainee Welder / Fabricator
Location: Walsall, West Midlands, WS2
Hours: Monday to Thursday, 06:30am – 4:45pm
About the Company
We are pleased to be recruiting for a West Midlands-based manufacturing specialist in tube-manipulation and fabrication. Their capabilities include laser-cutting, tube bending/manipulation, MIG/TIG welding, sheet-metal fabrication, and end-forming of tubes.
With over 100 years of combined engineering experience, the company emphasises modern techniques, precision manufacturing and continuous improvement, serving sectors such as heavy plant, automotive, leisure, outdoor play and agricultural equipment.
Giving you access to a facility and team built on strong Midlands engineering heritage — ideal for someone who wants to train, grow and become a skilled fabricator/welder.
Role Purpose
As a Trainee Welder / Fabricator you will join the production team and support the fabrication, welding and tube-manufacture operations. This is an entry-level role for someone with no prior welding experience, but who is highly motivated and ready to learn. Over time you will be trained in welding (MIG/TIG), basic fabrication, tube bending/laser-cut operations and assembly, working under supervision and gradually gaining more independence and skill.
Key Responsibilities
*
Assist in the fabrication of metal parts, frames and assemblies under supervision.
*
Learn and carry out basic welding operations (MIG / TIG) on sheet and tube components.
*
Support the tube-bending and manipulation processes (learning from experienced operators).
*
Help with laser-cutting, press-brake work, and prepping components (deburring, linishing, cleaning) as required.
*
Follow drawings, instructions, and work orders, maintaining quality standards and attention to detail.
*
Maintain a safe and clean working area, observe health & safety protocols and support continuous improvement.
*
Work as part of the production team, communicate clearly, ask for help when needed and take feedback positively.
*
Be willing to take on additional training in fabrication techniques, end-forming, assembly and finishing.
*
Demonstrate willingness to learn and progress — in time you may be involved in heavier fabrication duties and more complex welding tasks.
What We’re Looking For
*
No prior welding experience required – full training will be given.
*
A positive, professional attitude and strong desire to learn.
*
Passion for welding/fabrication and a genuine interest in working with metal and engineering processes.
*
Good manual dexterity, ability to work with tools, safe working practices and willingness to follow instruction.
*
Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated — the role begins early (06:30) and you’ll be working Monday to Thursday.
*
Willingness to work as part of a team, as well as follow one-to-one training from experienced colleagues.
*
A minimum of GCSEs or equivalents is desirable but not essential; willingness to engage in apprenticeship or further training is a big plus.
*
Good physical fitness (able to handle standing for extended periods, bending and lifting moderate components).
*
Strong safety awareness and willingness to adopt correct PPE and procedures.
What We Offer
*
Starting pay: £12.00–£13.00 per hour depending on age and capability.
*
Monday to Thursday working week (no Friday) – giving a long weekend.
*
Full training in welding (MIG/TIG), fabrication and tube bending/manipulation.
*
Opportunity for an apprenticeship route for younger candidates (e.g., 16-24) who want to formally develop a career in welding/fabrication.
*
A supportive, well-equipped Midlands engineering environment with a strong heritage, where you can progress in your career.
*
Scope to move into more advanced fabrication roles, tube bending specialist, assembly technician or welding technician as skills develop
