What Is the Opportunity?
Our Corporate team use their specialist expertise to offer bespoke insurance solutions to our largest and mostplex clients in the UK and Ireland. Due our continued growth, we are looking for a Senior Underwriter to join our team in any of our UK or Ireland offices
In this interesting and varied role, you will be involved from the early stages of client engagement through close interaction and collaboration with our colleagues in Risk Control, Claim, and other critical stakeholders both in the UK and the US. You'll be responsible for managing renewal business opportunities and developing prospects, leading the technical underwriting of these risks and helping to deliver Travelers' bespoke customer proposition. You'll manage an assigned allocation of large cross class accounts and will also be one of the primary contacts for our regional underwriting teams, providing technical support to assist writing new business and retaining our existing accounts with our broking partners.
Travelers Europe currently offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis in accordance with our Hybrid Work Arrangements Policy. This entails full time employees working three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part-time employees). This policy may be changed at thepany's discretion.
This role is eligible for a £2,500 new joiner bonus. If you are successfully referred by an employee at Travelers Europe, both you and the person who referred you could be eligible for this bonus. What Will You Do?
1. Underwrite and assess risk to maximise business growth and profitability for allocated book of business. Make appropriate decisions within own underwriting authority in addition to considered, intelligent andplete rmendations to technical underwriting/business leadership.
2. On pre-agreed accounts, actively participates and supports Development and Renewal Underwriters in new business, renewal and mid-term alteration underwriting activities that support underwriting decisions, consistent with business growth and profit.
3. Provide leadership and coaching, as appropriate, for Associate Underwriter to help with their development and ensure that their roles and responsibilities are delivered
4. Accountable for accurate underwriting documentation/ information in account management systems and adherence to documentation standards.
5. Understand, embrace, and execute Travelers' underwriting strategies and principles to produce budgeted results.
6. Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with colleagues in other parts of the organisation, including Head Office, Risk Control, Distribution, Claims, Actuarial, etc. as needed.
7. Actively engage and seek out training opportunities to further develop underwriting and sales expertise.
8. Working with the Development Underwriter, develop and leverage productive relationships through broker visibility and a disciplined sales management approach ( planning and follow-up for broker and end customer interaction, visits and meetings) all in support of business objectives.
9. Working with Distribution, effectively assist in the development, documentation and execution of sales plans with emphasis on increasing marketing and sales activities outside the office. Work tactically with brokers to ensure they have an appropriate level of understanding of TICL goals and objectives.
10. Actively participate in regularly scheduled sales and underwriting meetings.
11. Work effectively as a productive and supportive team member in conjunction with more senior team members, supporting business unit andpany objectives.
12. Demonstrate superior customer service standards (consistency, quick response, knowledge of products) to meet Travelers' service standards
13. Perform other duties as assigned.
What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?
14. University degree preferred.
15. Working knowledge of the local insurance marketplace. Demonstrates an ability and desire to learn about the enterprise and business unit critical business issues and financial drivers.
16. General knowledge of organisational and regulatory rules, policies and procedures and effectively employs that knowledge in day-to-day work activities.
17. Basic Product/Technical proficiencymensurate to incumbent's underwriting authority.
18. Demonstrates basic ability in the areas of customer focus and positive broker interaction.
19. Basic ability to effectively coach others and provide feedback that is clear, concise and professional.
20. Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) Certification preferred
What is a Must Have?
21. Previous experience of underwriting in Property and Casualty classes of business.
22. Incumbents are required to hold a full and valid driving licence.
