Overview
We are seeking to appoint a Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine to work in our Leicestershire and Rutland Sexual Health service. Based at our Loughborough Health Centre, with service locations across Rutland, Market Harborough, Melton Mowbray and Coalville, this part‑time role (4 PAs) offers a unique opportunity to provide free, confidential sexual health services to the local community. The Consultant will provide expert clinical leadership and high‑quality care in GUM, managing complex sexually transmitted infections within a multidisciplinary team. The role supports service development, clinical governance, education, research and audit and involves clinics with both booked and walk‑in appointments. No direct inpatient responsibility but supporting secondary care pathways. The Consultant will also contribute to staff training and the management of patients requiring PrEP, PEPSE, and complex sexual health care including HIV pathways.
Responsibilities
* Diagnose and manage STIs including complex genitourinary conditions.
* Work with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and lead the GUM MDT meetings.
* Offer expert opinions and second–line support to Specialty Doctors, nurses and trainees.
* Participate in clinical governance, clinical audit, CME and annual CPD requirements.
* Provide safeguarding support for vulnerable adults and young people.
* Provide clinical leadership to the wider team.
* Contribute to service development, redesign and pathway development.
* Lead or support quality improvement initiatives.
* Support innovation in HIV prevention (PEPSE, PrEP).
* Ensure service compliance with national standards such as BASHH, FSRH and NICE.
Qualifications
* Basic medical qualification registrable in the UK.
* Entry on the GMC specialist register for Genitourinary Medicine or equivalent via:
o CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview)
o CESR or European community rights
o Other approved method of entry
o MRCP, MRCOG or equivalent
o Diplomas in HIV, GUM and DFSRH
* Letter of competence in sub‑dermal implants or equivalent.
* Letter of competence in intrauterine techniques.
* Specialist skills relevant to sexual and reproductive health.
* Application/acknowledgement of evidence‑based practice.
* A working understanding of child protection issues.
* Research/publications in sexually transmitted infections, contraceptive/reproductive health and other aspects of sexual health.
* Teaching qualification appropriate to sexual health (e.g. BASHH STIF trainer, Royal College of Physicians or University) and/or GMC registered trainer status.
* Appropriate higher degree (e.g., MSc, MD /PhD).
* Willingness to work flexibly to support the needs of the service.
* Ability to travel.
