Rubicon Consulting is currently recruiting for Project Manager on an Initial 12 month contract based in Swindon.
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager with a strong background in DNO substation projects, specifically within the 11kV to 132kV range. The successful candidate will manage the full project lifecycle, ensuring safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of substation infrastructure projects for major UK Distribution Network Operators (DNOs).
This is a hands-on role requiring both technical and commercial oversight, ideally suited to a motivated professional with a track record of delivering multi-disciplinary HV substation projects within regulated environments.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead the delivery of substation projects (11kV–132kV) from initiation to completion.
· Manage project scope, budgets, risks, schedules, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
· Ensure compliance with DNO technical specifications, CDM regulations, and health & safety requirements.
· Coordinate with design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and client teams.
· Develop and maintain project documentation including programmes, risk registers, and progress reports.
· Monitor and control commercial performance, including cost tracking, forecasting, change control, and contract management (NEC, FIDIC, or similar).
· Liaise with clients, subcontractors, suppliers, and statutory bodies.
· Support tendering teams with technical and commercial input for future bids.
Requirements
Essential:
· Proven experience delivering substation projects (11kV to 132kV), ideally with a DNO or ICP.
· Strong knowledge of UK DNO standards and procedures.
· Demonstrated experience in commercial and contractual management, including cost control and risk mitigation.
· Excellent understanding of construction and commissioning activities within HV substations.
· Knowledge of relevant legislation and standards (e.g., CDM 2015, BS EN standards, Health & Safety at Work Act).
· Effective leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Desirable:
· Electrical engineering or project management qualification (e.g. HNC/HND/Degree, PRINCE2, APM).
· Experience working with frameworks/contracts for UK DNOs (e.g., UKPN, SSEN, WPD, ENWL, etc.).
· Working knowledge of NEC contracts and project finance principl
