Workday Specialist (HCM Consultant) 12 Month Secondment - AVP
Embark on a transformative journey as a Workday Specialist (HCM Consultant) AVP at Barclays, where you will lead the end‑to‑end technology development for defined HR Value Streams / Journeys within the Global HR Technology service provision. You will partner with HR Journey Owners to pursue a technology roadmap, fully exploiting our investment in Workday, ServiceNow and other supporting platforms. The role is a key face‑off into the HR Colleague Experience Team, supporting our ongoing transition to an Agile Value / Journey aligned delivery model, and will report locally to the HR CIO with a matrix line into the Global Workday Platform Owner, leading a global pool of resources on a matrix basis.
Purpose of the role
To design, develop and improve software, utilising various engineering methodologies, that provides business, platform and technology capabilities for our customers and colleagues.
Accountabilities / Responsibilities
* Develop and deliver high‑quality software solutions using industry‑aligned programming languages, frameworks and tools, ensuring that code is scalable, maintainable and optimised for performance.
* Collaborate cross‑functionally with product managers, designers and other engineers to define software requirements, devise solution strategies and ensure seamless integration and alignment with business objectives.
* Work with peers, participate in code reviews and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
* Stay informed of industry technology trends and actively contribute to the organisation’s technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
* Adhere to secure coding practices to mitigate vulnerabilities, protect sensitive data and ensure secure software solutions.
* Implement effective unit testing practices to ensure proper code design, readability and reliability.
* Advise and influence decision‑making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness, collaborating closely with other functions and business divisions.
* Lead a team performing complex tasks; set objectives, coach employees and manage performance relative to objectives, determining reward outcomes.
* Demonstrate clear leadership behaviours to create an environment for colleagues to thrive, including listening, energising, aligning and developing others.
* Coordinate and guide cross‑functional assignments, identify the need for specialised areas, and identify new directions for projects, using a combination of methodologies to meet outcomes.
* Consult on complex issues, providing advice to People Leaders to support resolution of escalated issues.
* Identify ways to mitigate risk and develop policies/procedures supporting the control and governance agenda.

Qualifications
* Experience training and implementing changes within Workday.
* Knowledge of business processes of Workday modules across Core HR.
* Experience and knowledge of Workday Core (core components of the system).
* Experience with Workday configuration.
* Experience using Workday HCM (employee lifecycle).
* Assessment of key critical skills such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology, and job‑specific technical skills.
