Overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and conscientious individual to join us at an exciting time. We have recently started delivery of a new programme called Connect to Work, which is funded by the Department for Work and Pensions, but delivered by the council. Connect to Work is about providing intensive support to people with disabilities and/or long-term health conditions or those who face other disadvantages, to help them move into, or remain in, employment.

Role and Responsibilities

This administrative role is customer facing, and you will likely be the first point of contact for many of the people looking to take part in the Connect to Work programme, and other programmes or courses within the service area. You will handle phone calls, referral forms, emails and paperwork. You need to be a skilled communicator, both over the phone, in-person and in writing, so that you can take and respond to referrals, provide basic information about the programme and be sensitive to the needs of customers who may face challenges with communication.

You will use a range of computer systems to support the service, and you need to be a confident computer user who can learn and adapt to our systems quickly. The programme involves the collection and processing of a lot of customer information, and you will need to conduct data entry tasks quickly and efficiently with great accuracy and minimal errors. You will need to treat customer data with the utmost care and confidentiality and comply with the council's policies and procedures around data security and information governance at all times.

This role offers a real mix of tasks, from dealing with customers, to handling data, responding to enquiries, recording expenditure and handling petty cash. No two days will be the same and it will be busy and varied. You must thrive in a busy office environment. You should be calm and at ease with balancing many tasks with varying priorities at any one time.

Qualifications and Experience

Experience in similar roles is an advantage, but not essential. Strong communication skills, organisational ability, and a willingness to learn and adapt quickly.

Benefits

We value our employees and provide staff rewards and plenty of opportunities for personal development and career progression including:

* Competitive rates of pay
* Automatic access to a secure, flexible and tax efficient Local Government Pension Scheme
* Staff benefits and discounts including salary sacrifice schemes
* Free on-site parking
* Generous leave entitlement (24 days rising to 32 days) plus 8 bank holidays and an additional concessionary day
* Free access to our employee assistance programme and confidential counselling
* Flexible and mobile working policy – we are well adapted to a hybrid model of working which includes a combination of time spent in the office and at home – our approach is to promote greater level of flexible working around personal and family commitments

Background Checks and Registration

Posts working with children or vulnerable groups will be subject to an appropriate criminal records check. It is an offence to apply for a role that involves engaging in regulated activity with children and adults in vulnerable circumstances if you are barred from working with one or both of these groups.
