Consultant Psychiatrist – Forensic Psychiatry
Location: West Midlands
Start Date: ASAP | Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Rate: Competitive (Outside IR35)
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Consultant Psychiatrist in the West Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity to deliver high-quality psychiatric care in a secure setting, working closely with a well-established multidisciplinary team to support individuals with complex mental health needs.
About the Role
The role involves leading on the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of service users within a forensic mental health environment. You will provide clinical leadership within a collaborative team that includes an Associate Specialist Doctor, Clinical Psychologist, Occupational Therapist, Social Worker and experienced nursing staff.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive psychiatric assessments in a secure environment
Develop and oversee individualised care plans in partnership with the MDT
Prescribe and monitor appropriate treatment, including medication management
Monitor service users’ progress and adjust interventions as required
Provide clinical leadership and specialist input across the service
Ensure compliance with relevant legislation including the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice
Contribute to ongoing service development and quality improvement initiatives
✅ Essential Criteria
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
CCT in Psychiatry (with Forensic Psychiatry CCT or substantial forensic experience preferred)
Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician status
Experience working within secure or similar mental health settings
Strong clinical, diagnostic and leadership skills
Excellent communication and teamworking abilities
In-depth understanding of relevant mental health legislation and safeguarding procedures
