KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Actively promote a positive and collaborative workplace culture that supports the Charity’s purpose of Making Life Better and i-care values to increase morale, productivity, and performance.
2. To support the maintenance and updating of the company health and safety policy, including all guidance notes and underpinning documentation. To lead on the monitoring of compliance for all services across the charity in line with said documents and statutory and regulatory requirements.
3. Support the development, maintain and review the Health and Safety Delivery Plan for the organisation taking account of the diversity of operations across the charity and report on the progress of the Delivery Plan as required.
4. Contribute to the further development and maintenance of an integrated system for recording, analysing, and reporting accident and incident data, support the ongoing development of the charity database to record and report on the charity’s monitoring and compliance.
5. Support with the coordination of the annual external health and safety audits in consultation with the appropriate senior management team members including site selection, audit programme and the production of health and safety audit action plans.
6. Prepare for and assist with the quarterly health and safety strategic and staff/union meetings and as required, fill in for the chair of the staff/union health and safety meetings.
7. Provide the first point of contact for managers, staff and responsible premises officers (RPO) regarding health and safety.
8. Support the charity’s HR department and training officer to identify staff training needs with a view to creating a skills matrix for each job / role within HLH (including volunteering). This should include inductions, mentoring systems and competency assessments along with establishing a set renewal / CPD timeframe.
9. Support the charity in delivering a suite of training packages for Responsible Premises Officers, managers and staff, such as health and safety awareness, risk assessments, manual handling assessments, etc.
10. Support the development of a monitor policy, coordinate site and service monitoring of compliance both internally within services and by the health and safety team. Support the system of peer‑reviews and learning for all Health and Safety assessment checks for the company.
11. Support Heads of Service to investigate incidents, accidents, complaints and cases of ill health as required and investigate such incidents and report on findings when necessary.
12. Support the Head of Estates to draft the Annual Health and Safety Board report and other reports as required.
13. Work with the Excursions Safety & Compliance Officers to ensure the effective implementation and development of the adventurous activities and off‑site excursions system for HLH and The Highland Council. This includes the development of relevant guidance, monitoring and providing advice to managers and those leading excursions or activities.
14. Work with heads of Service and Excursions Safety & Compliance Officers to secure Adventure Activity Licensing Authority licences for HLH on an ongoing basis.
15. Attend and undertake any training online or in person including CPD.
16. Aim to reduce wastage and uphold our environmental values of being as sustainable as possible in all tasks.
17. Assist and support other areas of High Life Highland with particular projects, training or in the event of holidays or sickness.
18. Work will include some occasional evenings, weekends and bank holidays for specific meetings and events.
19. Undertake all tasks in accordance with High Life Highland policies and procedures, including General Data Protection Regulations, health and safety procedures, relevant checks and reporting any concerns to management to ensure corrective action is taken.
