Financial Controller – School | South West Hertfordshire
Salary: Circa £65,000
Location: Hertfordshire (fully office-based)
Contract: Permanent
We are partnering with a well-regarded independent school in Hertfordshire to appoint a qualified Financial Controller. This is a hands-on role with real ownership, visibility, and impact, reporting directly to the Director of Finance.
Please note: Prior experience within a school, college, or wider education setting is essential, and candidates with recent experience in a similar-level finance role within education will only be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
* Take full ownership of day-to-day finance operations, including AP, AR, payroll oversight
* Prepare management accounts, budgets, forecasts, and cash flow reports
* Ensure compliance with VAT and core finance processes
* Provide strategic financial insight to senior leadership and governors
* Lead and develop the finance team
The Ideal Candidate:
* Fully qualified (ACCA, ACA, CIMA, or equivalent)
* Proven finance leadership experience in independent/private schools or the wider education sector
* Current or recent experience as a Financial Controller, Head of Finance, or Bursar with full accountability
* Hands-on, proactive, and confident managing a small finance team
