We are seeking a motivated and scientifically minded undergraduate student to join the muon team at ISIS for an industrial placement. The student will focus on developing advanced scientific data analysis methods for Super-MuSR, our new flagship instrument. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in combining cutting-edge experimental physics and data science, and contributing to a world-leading research facility. About the role and a summary of key duties & responsibilities
* Develop and implement scientific data analysis methods for Super-MuSR.
* Work closely with the muon team to understand the scientific requirements and challenges.
* Contribute to the development of advanced data analysis methodologies for the broader ISIS and muon community.
Person Specification
Key - Shortlisting (S), at Interview (I) or both (S&I)
Essential:
* Currently enrolled on an undergraduate degree course and returning to university/studies to complete your undergraduate degree following the placement (S)
* Are required or have requested to take an industrial placement year (S)
* Have the right to live and work in the UK for the duration of the placement (S)
* Able to commence employment in summer 2026 (S)
* Experience with data analysis and visualisation (S&I)
* Programming skills (e.g., Python, MATLAB) (S)
* Ability to work collaboratively in a team and communicate effectively (S&I)
* Able to interpret data critically and form scientific conclusions (S&I)
Desirable:
* Knowledge of muon spectroscopy or related experimental techniques (S&I)
