Within this role you will be responsible for leading and motivating the manufacturing team to deliver high-quality production. Supervise all manufacturing activities, monitor performance, allocate resources, ensure workflow meets packaging demands, maintain GMP compliance, and uphold product quality. Deputise for the Manufacturing Manager as needed.
Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate daily manufacturing operations (blending, sieving, granulation, compression, encapsulation) to meet production schedules.
Ensure all batches are manufactured in compliance with approved BPRs, cGMP standards, SOPs, MHRA guidelines, and company safety policies.
Allocate tasks, manage workflow, and monitor operator performance to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to professional standards.
Maintain inspection-ready manufacturing areas with high housekeeping standards and promote a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning.
Review batch documentation in real time to prevent errors; ensure accurate, timely completion of all records, deviations, and CAPA implementation.
Lead investigations into incidents and deviations, implementing corrective and preventive actions.
Collaborate closely with QA, QC, Packaging, Engineering, Planning, and other departments to maintain product quality and resolve operational issues.
Supervise, coach, mentor, and train Operators and Senior Operators; conduct performance reviews and identify training needs.
Manage team discipline, attendance, and adherence to operational and safety standards.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives, recommending process optimizations and equipment upgrades to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Ensure production equipment is properly maintained, calibrated, and available for use; coordinate maintenance and change control activities with Engineering.
Represent the department professionally to auditors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
Perform operational duties as required to meet deadlines or cover staff absences, demonstrating a positive, can-do leadership approach.
Maintain appropriate stock levels and ensure correct storage, handling, and traceability of materials.
Ensure full compliance and adherence with all company policies, procedures, guidelines and SOPs.
Undertake other duties that are commensurate with the level and responsibilities of the role.
Required Experience:
Proven experience supervising pharmaceutical manufacturing operations.
Hands-on experience with GMP/cGMP compliance, batch documentation, deviations, and CAPA implementation.
Experience managing and developing manufacturing teams, including training and performance reviews.
Track record of collaborating with internal stakeholders to meet production and quality targets.
Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives and optimising operational processes.
Exposure to high-volume production, maintaining quality, compliance, and efficiency.
Qualifications:
Degree or Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science, Engineering, or related field
Certified in cGMP/GMP and familiar with MHRA requirements
Health & Safety and Quality Assurance certifications desirable
