Overview
Applications are invited for a Senior Clinical Fellow (ST3+ level) in General Surgery commencing November 2025. The post is available for 12 months, subject to satisfactory formal assessment.
The post is suitable for doctors with prior core surgical training and/or registrar level experience in emergency and elective General Surgery, who are either seeking registrar-level experience before applying to a Higher Surgical Training programme, or who wish to gain experience that may contribute to an application for Article 14 entry onto the Specialist Register. It is also suitable for doctors who wish to pursue a non-training grade career at registrar level. For doctors who are new to working in the NHS/UK, a period of induction without on call commitments may be appropriate, and can be offered.
Main duties of the job
Clinically this post includes commitments to emergency and elective general and GI surgery including emergency vascular surgery, as well ongoing inpatient and outpatient care. Team rotas within sub-specialties ensure equal access to training opportunities, alongside higher surgical trainees, core surgical trainees and Foundation doctors. Clinical commitments will be primarily in the Grange University Hospital, with elective commitments on other sites within the Health Board, including Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport and Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.
For this reason, post-holders will be expected to travel independently between sites; travel expenses will be reimbursed in line with Health Board policy.
