About the role
We are looking for a Systems Engineer to work across a broad range of activities within the Metron3D platform. This role is focused on hands‑on testing, integration, and system support, working closely with multidisciplinary teams. You will be helping to ensure that new features and subsystem improvements are robust, reliable, and ready for release.
A typical day for a Systems Engineer could look like this
- Developing and executing structured test plans across system and subsystem levels
- Supporting development and integration activities across projects and teams
- Collaborating closely with engineering, R&D, and other departments
- Analysing test data and providing clear, actionable recommendations
- Maintaining accurate documentation, procedures, and test records
- Supporting manufacturing and service teams with troubleshooting
- Becoming a proficient user of Metron3D to support development work
- Improving and optimising internal tool usage to maximise uptime and performance
Who we are looking for
- Working within a multidisciplinary engineering environment (2+ years)
- Hands‑on experience with complex instrumentation or automated systems, ideally within testing
- Creating clear and structured technical documentation
- Applying a methodical, detail‑oriented approach to problem solving
- Communicating effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Using technical English confidently (written and verbal)
Nice to have:
- Openness to occasional shift work (including evenings or weekends if required)
- Familiarity with project management methodologies
- Experience within micro/nano analysis or related technical fields
- Exposure to scanning probe microscopy techniques such as AFM
Education / Qualifications
Either a degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline, or a clear equivalent path through relevant apprenticeship or accumulated experience.

Location and work pattern
All of our new UK team members are asked to work on site here at Abingdon during their first three months with us. We offer flexible, hybrid working where possible upon completion of probation.
