Job Description
We’re looking for a skilled Structural Engineer to join our Manchester team. This is an opportunity to work on complex, high‑quality engineering projects alongside a collaborative team of engineers and technicians who are committed to delivering exceptional design outcomes.
About the Role
As a Structural Engineer, you will contribute to the design and specification of structural engineering work across a range of projects. You’ll be involved from initial concept stages through to detailed design, site surveys, construction support and design reviews. Working closely with multi‑disciplinary teams, you’ll help deliver safe, efficient and buildable solutions that meet project requirements and industry standards.
You’ll also play a part in mentoring early‑career engineers and supporting continuous improvement within the department.
Key Responsibilities
* Deliver structural engineering design and consultancy services under the guidance of a line manager or project lead.
* Produce detailed calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other design deliverables.
* Carry out technical checks of designs to ensure quality, compliance and alignment with the project brief.
* Attend and contribute to internal and external design meetings.
* Collaborate with multi‑disciplinary design teams to develop coordinated, buildable solutions.
* Support fee estimates, scopes of work, tender reviews and change control processes.
* Review specialist subcontractor and supplier designs for technical compliance.
* Maintain knowledge of relevant standards, publications and legislative requirements.
* Keep up to date with professional development requirements (ICE/IStructE).
About You
* Degree in Civil and/or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
* Working toward Chartered or Incorporated status with ICE or IStructE.
* Strong experience in structural design, detailing and specification writing within a design consultancy environment (not site based design review).
* Proficiency in analysis software such as MasterSeries, STAAD or Tedds.
* Strong understanding of British Standards, Eurocodes and CDM Regulations.
* Confident communication and presentation skills.
* Ability to build productive relationships with clients, colleagues and project partners.
Desirable:
* Experience delivering multi‑disciplinary projects.
* Experience contributing to bids, proposals or tender documentation.
* Understanding of commercial project elements.
