About the Hospital East Kootenay Regional Hospital (EKRH) is an 80‑bed regional referral centre serving roughly 82,000 residents in BC’s East Kootenay region. The hospital offers 24/7 emergency and trauma services, internal medicine, OB/GYN, general surgery, orthopedics, ophthalmology, ENT, pathology, psychiatry, pediatrics, anaesthesia, radiology, urology and family practice inpatient care.
About the Role The role is for an adult psychiatrist who will deliver comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for adults, expand community mental‑health services, and collaborate with clinical teams, Indigenous partners, and other disciplines to advance adult mental‑health care across the region.
Responsibilities
Deliver primary adult psychiatry care in a 12‑bed inpatient unit and outpatient clinic.
Provide consultations in medical, surgical units, and the emergency department.
Lead initiatives to expand mental‑health access throughout rural East Kootenays, including Indigenous collaborations.
Manage a spectrum of adult conditions, such as chronic mental‑health issues and substance‑use disorders.
Maintain continuity of care and develop treatment plans tailored to adult populations.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to deliver a holistic, patient‑centred approach.
Participate in mentorship and professional development opportunities offered by the hospital.
Compensation and Benefits Compensation
– Combination
Estimated remuneration for an adult psychiatrist in Cranbrook ranges from $400,000 to $600,000, determined by fee‑for‑service billings, sessional contracts and MOCAP level 2.

Retention Flat Fee – $21,696
Relocation Funding – $9,000 (BC), $12,000 (Canada), $15,000 (outside Canada)
Recruitment Incentive – $20,000 (pro‑rated for part‑time)
RCME CME funding – $1,800 for up to two years, $4,800 during the third and fourth years, $7,800 after four years.
Vacation Leave with flexible scheduling.
