This locum post will help address the Trust's diagnostic and treatment targets in out-patient, in-patient and endoscopy services, and help enhance our capacity for the anticipated expansion in colonoscopy over the next few years. If appropriate the job plan of the post-holder may be configured to accommodate any other subspecialist expertise.
Full accreditation in gastroenterology and general (internal) medicine will be required, and the post-holder will be expected to contribute towards the general gastroenterological workload including diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, in addition to a small caseload of the general medicine. A research interest with evidence of publications is desirable as is a post graduate degree.
Main duties of the job
The 4 hour session is to include related administrative duties. For endoscopy, current unit practice is for mixed lists comprising OGDs, flexible sigmoidoscopies, and colonoscopies, from inpatients, emergencies, waiting list and rapid access sources with a total of 220 minutes (am) or 200 minutes (pm) timetabled endoscopy
Two outpatient clinics per week will be held; either at Russells Hall Hospital or a peripheral clinic (Corbett or Guest hospital);
Ward work includes supervision of 36 inpatients during consultant of week cover, supported by at least 3 juniors at FY, IMT and SpR grade.
The appointee will be expected to contribute to Unit audit projects
The duties will include Saturday / Sunday/ Bank holiday ward rounds (3 hours each) when on call.
The post holder will be required to participate in Gastroenterology/Endoscopy on-call rota which will consist of a 1 in 9 and is paid at category B level, which currently attracts a supplement of 5%. Emergency endoscopies during the working day will be incorporated in routine lists whenever possible.
