Main responsibilities
The duties will include pre-, peri- and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of patients on the ICU, and providing assistance with resuscitation calls.
* Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital.
* Communication with other hospitals.
* Teaching – the postholder may be involved in teaching other doctors, medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in specialty and special interest.
* Participation in on‑call rota: Theatres and ITU (three tiers of cover – Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU). Rota’s are EWTD compliant.
* Maintain a logbook and electronic record of learning experiences, including multisource feedback.
* Register with the Royal College of Anaesthetists; use of the electronic lifelong platform is encouraged.
* Participate in Quality improvement projects, research and clinical governance activities.
Person specification
Experience & Qualifications
* Completed at least two years Foundation training at FY1 and FY2 level in a relevant programme.
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent.
* 3 months experience in ITU / Anaesthetics in the UK.
Clinical Skills & Experience
* Possesses range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.
* Understanding of clinical risk management.
Knowledge
* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.
Organisation & Planning
* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams.
