Anaesthetic/ICU Fellow-Bariatric, Periop or Regional/Enhanced Recovery


NHS Medical & Dental Trust

Main area: Anaesthetics, Grade NHS Medical & Dental Trust. Contract: Fixed term, 12 months per annum. Hours: Full time - 40 hours per week. Job ref 279-MWANAE-GE-CT3+SRH-125.

Employer: University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust, Site: St. Richard's Hospital, Town: Chichester. Salary £65,048 per annum. Closing 12/05/2026 23:59.


Main responsibilities

The duties will include pre-, peri- and post-operative management of surgical patients, assisting with care of patients on the ICU, and providing assistance with resuscitation calls.

* Communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the hospital.
* Communication with other hospitals.
* Teaching – the postholder may be involved in teaching other doctors, medical students, nurses and other paramedical staff in the team in specialty and special interest.
* Participation in on‑call rota: Theatres and ITU (three tiers of cover – Theatres, Obstetrics and ITU). Rota’s are EWTD compliant.
* Maintain a logbook and electronic record of learning experiences, including multisource feedback.
* Register with the Royal College of Anaesthetists; use of the electronic lifelong platform is encouraged.
* Participate in Quality improvement projects, research and clinical governance activities.


Person specification


Experience & Qualifications

* Completed at least two years Foundation training at FY1 and FY2 level in a relevant programme.
* Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice.
* Advanced Life Support Certificate from the Resuscitation Council UK or equivalent.
* 3 months experience in ITU / Anaesthetics in the UK.


Clinical Skills & Experience

* Possesses range of clinical knowledge, skills and information technology expertise.
* Understanding of clinical risk management.


Knowledge

* Breadth of experience in and outside specialty.


Organisation & Planning

* Experience and ability to work in multi‑professional teams.
* Understanding of NHS/Clinical governance/Resource constraints.
* Evidence of managerial skills: achievements, courses attended.


Teaching Skills

* Evidence of interest and commitment to teaching.
* Recognised teaching qualification.


Academic & Research

* Evidence of participation in audit.
* Research experience.
* Publications.
* Prizes and honours.
* Appropriate progression of career to date.


Personal Attributes

* Evidence of good communication skills both oral and written.
