An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the NHS Shetland Macmillan Nursing Team. The Macmillan Palliative Care Clinical Nurse specialist will work as an autonomous practitioner providing education, advice and support to patients with both cancer and non-cancer diagnosis, to improve the palliative and end of life provision across NHS Shetland. In addition to the role of Palliative care CNS the post holder will provide specialist services to patients who live with Stomas, both providing direct care and/or reviews and supporting the wider clinical teams in acute and community to support patients who live with stomas.
The post holder would play an active role in advancing high quality specialist palliative care services and promoting excellence in end of life care across NHS Shetland. A broad range of effective communication skills is essential as well as the ability to work collaboratively with the wider multi-disciplinary team.
It would be desirable but not essential to hold a current Post Graduate Chemotherapy Course and other advanced nursing skills courses such as Non Medical Prescribing, Clinical Assessment for Advanced Practitioners and Stoma care. This role will require the post holder to undertake extensive training and courses if qualifications are not held, so the successful applicant must be willing to evidence this commitment through recent personal development. This post will primarily be hospital based but will require visiting patients within the community setting, so it is essential to hold a Current Full Driving Licence.
Rise to the challenge and enjoy the opportunity - Shetland is a wonderful place to live and work. Shetland offers low pollution, low crime, excellent schools, great leisure facilities, unique wildlife and amazing scenery, whilst still only a short flight away from the UK mainland.
