Job Overview
A specialist school in Newbury is looking for a new Mental Health Assistant to join their team full‑time as soon as possible. The school caters to students with a range of social, emotional and mental health needs, such as attachment disorders, trauma, moderate learning difficulties and anxiety disorders.
Responsibilities
As a Mental Health Assistant, you will support students throughout the day on a 1:1 and small group basis. You will follow therapeutic practices and behaviour management to ensure a calm and safe learning environment, provide general classroom assistance to the teacher, and liaise with on‑site specialists to ensure each student receives the best quality care and education.
Qualifications and Experience
This role is ideal for a graduate or aspiring psychologist who is eager to gain hands‑on experience with children facing complex mental health needs. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, resilient and passionate about supporting children with SEN and SEMH needs. Previous experience working with children is highly desirable, but the right attitude and willingness to learn are most important.
