Trainee Patent Attorney
Degree required: Physics, Electronics/Electrical Engineering or other high-tech disciplines
We are looking for ambitious graduates with a degree in physics, electronics/electrical engineering or another high-tech discipline to join our successful IT & Engineering practice group, starting in September 2026.
A career as a trainee Patent Attorney at GJE offers a rewarding path towards qualification as both a UK and European Patent Attorney. From day one, you will use the technical knowledge and expertise gained through your degree while developing skills in patent drafting, filing and prosecution.
You can expect to work with a wide range of exciting clients from the start of your training, from multinational organisations to SMEs, start-ups and university spin-outs. You will be mentored by expert attorneys who are leaders in their field and supported by friendly, collaborative colleagues.
Training and mentoring
Our training programme combines valuable on-the-job learning with formal study. You will begin by building practical experience before enrolling on the Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property Law, ultimately working towards qualification as both a European Patent Attorney and a Chartered Patent Attorney in the UK. From an early stage, you will be trusted with real responsibility, helping you develop the skills and confidence needed to build a successful career.
We support your studies through external courses and an extensive in-house training programme. You will also benefit from mentoring and coaching from our approachable senior attorneys, who are always willing to share their expertise and support your development.
