Role Overview:
We are seeking motivated and technically capable Graduate Mechanical Engineers to support engineering activities across operational nuclear sites.
This is a site-based role, located at Heysham, Torness, or another project site, depending on operational and project requirements at the time. You will gain hands-on exposure to mechanical construction, installation, and commissioning works in a highly regulated and safety-critical environment. The role offers a structured graduate development pathway toward professional accreditation and Chartered status.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support mechanical construction, installation, and commissioning activities on operational nuclear sites
* Assist in the review and implementation of mechanical designs, specifications, method statements, and work packs
* Support site inspections, quality checks, testing, and handover activities
* Contribute to planning, scheduling, and progress monitoring of mechanical construction tasks
* Work on a variety of systems, including Advanced Gas-Cooled Reactor (AGR) equipment, as part of wider mechanical works
* Liaise with site teams, subcontractors, and client representatives to ensure safe and efficient delivery
* Ensure compliance with nuclear regulatory requirements, site licence conditions, and company procedures
* Promote a strong safety culture and adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards
* Support defect resolution, continuous improvement, and reporting of mechanical works
* Engage in structured graduate training, mentoring, and professional development activities
Key Requirements:
* Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
* Interest in mechanical construction and nuclear plant operations
* Good technical understanding, problem-solving, and analytical skills
* Strong communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a site-based and home-working environment
* Willingness to travel to Heysham 2 sites as required
* Previous industrial placement, site experience, or mechanical construction exposure is advantageous but not essential
Security & Eligibility Requirements
Due to the nature of operational nuclear sites:
* Applicants must be eligible to obtain UK CTC (Counter Terrorist Check) security clearance
* Appointment is subject to satisfactory security clearance and background checks
