Permanent Electrician role at the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) account in HMP Hewell, B97 6QQ. The role is based on site and may require weekend work on a rota basis with an additional allowance of 15% of basic salary. The base salary ranges from £29,009 to £35,015, dependent on experience. The position supports HMPPS by ensuring safe, clean and efficient prison environments across 60 secure premises in England and Wales.
What you will do:
* Planned and preventative electrical maintenance, including related administrative duties.
* Actively fault‑find and troubleshoot electrical systems across the prison.
* Carry out like‑for‑like replacements and other electrical minor works with the requisite inspections and tests, recording results in accordance with BS 7671.
* Ensure all electrical systems are safe, compliant and fully functional, contributing to a secure and well‑maintained environment for staff and residents.
* Assist the Responsible Person and Authorised Person when requested.
* Ensure consistent implementation and follow‑up of Health & Safety standards, Risk Assessments and Safe Systems of Work across all work streams.
* Assist with escorting duties and other duties as required.
What you will bring:
* City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation Works or equivalent.
* BS 7671 18th Edition, although 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition will be considered.
* Good knowledge of Health & Safety requirements.
* Experience with planned and preventative maintenance operations.
* Excellent organisational, time‑management and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
* Capability to work at heights, work independently and use initiative.
* Understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems (desirable).
* Knowledge and experience of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
* Basic IT skills.
