Mental Health Waking Night Support Worker, Young People

Salary: £26986.96 per annum
Hours: Full Time 38.5 hours per week
Overview
Care in Mind provide residential services for young people aged 16-30 years old. The young people we care for often require a high level of support to assist with difficulties they may have from self-harming, behaviour, and emotional difficulties. Our aim is to support the young people using a therapeutic approach to help them achieve their individual goals, in preparation for transition to adult life.
Responsibilities
* Support young people during night shifts, including weekends and bank holidays, with emphasis on safety, wellbeing, and routine.
* Update online care records, complete medication administration, and provide effective handovers to day staff.
* Assist with household tasks and general life skills to maintain a homely environment.
* Engage in activities and support transitions toward independent living and community integration (e.g., self-administering medication, attending education, using public transport, appointments).
* Manage incidents and de-escalate challenging behaviours, while maintaining professional boundaries and calmness in emergencies.
* Collaborate with the night team and on-call manager for support.
Requirements
* Must be a driver with a Full UK Licence (manual only); willingness to drive a service car.
* Flexibility to work night shifts including weekends and bank holidays.
* Ability to attend training during employment (weekdays).
* Good written skills for basic reports and information recording.
* Basic IT skills (forms, online care system, emails).
* Good verbal communication and active listening skills.
* Professional working boundaries and ability to remain calm in emergencies.
Desirable Criteria
* Full UK Driving Licence.
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Care.
* Previous experience with young people who have mental health needs.

About the home
The home is a 4-bed service located between Stockport town centre and Marple, with a large 4-bedroom detached property and a garden with a trampoline, football nets, dining area, flower beds and a vegetable patch. The home supports young people with mental health needs who may require self-harm support, education, and daily living skills. The staff team provides night coverage with on-call manager support.
Additional information
Previous care experience is not essential; full training will be provided. You will receive ongoing support and mentoring from our residential and clinical team, including reflective practice, 1:1 supervision, and group staff support.
