Clinical Coder

We invite applications for a Clinical Coder role within our Primary Care Services. The role will support administrative functions across Moorcroft Medical Centre, Holmcroft Surgery and Keele Health Centre, with a focus on coding medical documents.
This role involves processing and coding secondary care letters, maintaining accurate electronic patient records, and working closely with practice teams to ensure compliance with clinical, governance and CQC requirements.
The successful candidate will be organized, detail‑oriented and able to support cross‑site teams. Full training will be provided.
Main duties and responsibilities
* Work as a clinical coder across Moorcroft, Holmcroft and Keele practices.
* Support the team in managing both incoming and existing workload.
* Use EMIS and Docman for coding and document management.
* Code information from secondary care letters and clinical correspondence into the patients’ electronic health record, adhering to practice coding policy.
* Comply with CQC, clinical and information governance requirements.
* Liaise with practice team members for queries and support regarding practice systems such as recall and target achievement.
* Contribute to projects or pilots, including new IT systems such as electronic booking of hospital appointments.
* Act on clinical team queries and instructions, and identify issues requiring escalation.
* Help set up and follow appropriate protocols.
* Cover team absences to maintain a safe working environment.
* Perform a range of clerical tasks: preparing records, printing, filing, scanning, retrieval, and distribution of documentation.
* Ensure accurate data entry in accordance with security and health & safety policies.
* Use Docman, Ordercoms, Medisec and other relevant software.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NVQ 3/RSA 3 Business Administration or equivalent.
Experience
* Experience of secretarial procedures and related software programmes.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of systems used in GP surgery.
