Field Service Engineer (Diesel Locomotive Engines)\nLocation: Derby & Surrounding Areas (Field-Based)\nContract Type: Permanent role. \nHours: 45 hours per week + overtime + on call pay. \nSalary: £41,760 per annum (based on 45 hours/week)\nRate: Company van + expenses + on-call allowance\n\nAbout the Role:\nWe are seeking an experienced Field-Based Product Support Engineer to work across Derby and the surrounding region, supporting the maintenance and service of diesel engines used in locomotives.
This is a hands-on, field service position working with a range of diesel units.\n\nThis is an excellent opportunity to join a well-established engineering business on a long-term contract with the potential for a permanent role.\n\nKey Responsibilities:\n\nService & Delivery.\nCarry out planned modification programmes and reactive maintenance on diesel engines.\nPrepare jobs in advance (tools, parts, documentation) and liaise directly with the customer.\nOperate independently in the field, delivering safe, high-quality work on customer sites.\nRecord all work completed accurately and in line with internal procedures.\nCustomer Focus.\nAct as the first point of contact on site, resolving minor customer issues and escalating where needed.\nMaintain professional relationships and uphold Wabtec's reputation as a trusted industry partner.\nIdentify opportunities for additional work or service improvement and report to management.\n\nRole Details & Benefits:\n\nField-based role across Derby and nearby sites - travel required between locations.\nCompany van provided for work use, including fuel and expenses.\n45 hours per week, Monday to Friday.\nOvertime available at flat rate.\n\nOn-call rota every other weekend:\n\n£73 per on-call day (paid regardless of call-out)\nHourly rate paid on top if called out\nPermanent role \n\nIdeal Candidate:\n.\nExperience working on diesel engines, ideally within rail or heavy plant\nStrong mechanical and electrical fault-finding skills.\nConfident working independently in a field-based role.\nGood communication and problem-solving abilities.\nIdeally NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in a mechanical discipline.\nFull UK driving licence (essential).\n\nReady to Apply?\n\nIf you're a skilled engineer looking for a long-term field service role with stability, variety, and the chance to work on major rolling stock, we want to hear from you
