Job Summary
A lady from Penygroes with Multiple Sclerosis requires a Female Personal Assistant for 12 hours per week, split between Tuesday and Thursday mornings (6 hours per day). The role is funded through the Direct Payment scheme to support the lady’s independence. Flexibility is essential as days may change depending on appointments.
Responsibilities
* Assist with daily living tasks.
* Perform light domestic duties such as ironing and hoovering.
* Prepare meals and snacks.
* Shop for groceries and other items.
* Support access to community activities and appointments.
* Carry out reasonable requests from the employer or family.
* Use own initiative and remain self‑motivated.
* Maintain reliable time‑keeping.
* Show sociability and a good sense of humour.
* Encourage the employer to gain independence and develop living skills.
* Provide companionship, engage in conversation, and facilitate social interaction.
* Advise the employer to attend scheduled appointments.
* Ensure the employer’s safety during all working hours.
* Comply with the Data Protection Act.
* Remain mindful of safeguarding issues; report concerns to the relevant authority immediately.
* Contact GP, social worker, or local authority as needed for medical assistance.
Relationships & Communication
* Develop a supportive and caring relationship with the employer.
* Perform all duties in a friendly and helpful manner.
* Contact individuals on the employer’s behalf when necessary.
Person Specification
* Age requirements: 25 years or older and over 30 years old to drive the mobility car.
* Hold a full clean driving licence with at least 5 years of experience, as the employer’s Motability car is a large SUV.
* Capable of lifting the employer’s wheelchair (~16 kg).
* Non‑smoker.
* Fond of animals (the employer owns a dog).
* Display caring, patient, friendly, responsible, reliable, honest, and trustworthy behaviour.
* Proactive, self‑motivated, and able to work independently.
* Possess local knowledge of the area around Penygroes.
* Confidently use Satnav/Google Maps to travel to hospitals (Haverfordwest, Carmarthen, Llanelli, Morriston).
* Maintain good time‑keeping and be flexible with working patterns and duties as required.
* Keep simple records such as time tracking.
* Communicate effectively and speak on the employer’s behalf when required.
* Develop long‑term supportive relationships with the employer.
* Ready to undergo training to meet the employer’s specific needs.
* Undergo a Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check; the check will be carried out upon acceptance of the offer.
