The Role
You will integrate into the fabrication department and play a key role in ensuring welding apprentices receive high-quality training and mentoring, aligned with the company's in-house training programme.
You will be working with a team of 9 fabrication apprentices enrolled on a 4-year training programme, supporting them from early development through to qualification.
Key Responsibilities
* Training apprentices in a range of welding processes, including MMA, TIG, FCAW, MIG, Sub Arc
* Welding a variety of materials, including Carbon steel, Stainless steel, Aluminium, Duplex, Cunifer
* Tack welding of fit‑ups
* Welding across various material grades and positions
* Promoting and maintaining safe lifting and handling practices
* Providing coaching, mentoring, and ongoing feedback to apprentices
* Liaising with managers to ensure the in-house training programme meets required skill levels
* Providing regular apprentice performance feedback to line managers
Candidate Specification
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
* Time‑served welder
Skills & Knowledge:
* Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
* Strong knowledge of welding and fabrication processes across a range of materials
* Sound understanding of workshop safety practices
Personal Attributes:
* Strong oral and written communication skills
* Excellent people management skills and the right aptitude for tutoring and mentoring
* Developed numeracy and computer literacy skills
* Patient, supportive, and passionate about developing others
