Advanced Nurse Practitioner SEND (Band 8a)
Join NHS in the London Borough of Barking & Dagenham to provide high‑quality care for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). The role is full‑time, based at the Child & Family Centre, Axe Street, Barking.
Overview
As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP), you will work within a skilled interdisciplinary team, co‑producing innovative care pathways and leading a comprehensive community service for children with SEND. You will support the Consultant Nurse and the broader MDT to deliver personalised, evidence‑based care.
Responsibilities & Duties
* Act as a role model for the wider team and service.
* Support and manage the Specialist School Nursing Team.
* Conduct comprehensive health assessments, physical examinations, initiate referrals and investigations.
* Lead delivery of community services for children with SEND, working closely with children, families and local partners.
* Collaborate with parents/carers and stakeholders to develop impactful interventions and strategies.
* Engage in QI projects and co‑production work to ensure local needs drive change.
* Support the break of diagnostic news and the Consultant Nurse in delivering the children’s agenda, especially SEND.
Person Specification
Essential Qualifications
* Registered Nurse (RN child, LD) or equivalent.
* Advanced Nurse Practitioner qualification.
* Relevant Master’s degree (or completion of ANP training at Master’s level).
* V300 non‑medical prescribing course completion.
* English and maths competency.
Desirable Qualifications
* SCPHN.
Essential Experience
* Minimum 2 years as ANP.
* Minimum 2 years as NMP.
* Experience managing complex and high‑risk children/young people.
Essential Knowledge
* Knowledge of NHS plan and priorities.
* Comprehensive understanding of SEND.
* Safeguarding children with SEND.
Essential Skills
* Basic IT awareness and proficiency with EPR systems such as RIO.
* Experience working within MDTs.
* Excellent communication skills.
Salary & Benefits
Band 8a salary range £55,690 – £62,682 per annum plus High Cost Area Supplement (15% of basic salary, pro‑rata, £4,714 – £5,941). Permanent contract, full‑time, with flexible working options. £55,690 – £62,682 a year plus HCAS per annum (pro‑rata).
