Summary
* As an Appointee Officer, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding individuals from financial abuse, supporting them to maintain independence, and making decisions in their best interest. This position involves managing finances for individuals who lack capacity or have physical disabilities, ensuring their financial well-being and compliance with relevant procedures.
Responsibilities
* Act as the delegated Appointee on behalf of the Corporate Director to manage finances for individuals lacking capacity or with physical disabilities.
* Apply for and manage benefits and income from the Department for Work and Pensions, including disability-related entitlements.
* Ensure timely payment of utility bills, care contributions, and other relevant expenses.
* Operate and reconcile bank accounts for service users, maintaining accurate records of all financial transactions.
* Conduct regular audits to ensure appropriate use of funds.
* Make purchases on behalf of individuals, adhering to financial procedures and policies.
* Engage with individuals with complex needs to gather information for benefit claims and Personal Independence Payments.
* Support individuals with pending appeals by arranging interim financial support to prevent safeguarding concerns.
* Monitor benefit entitlements to ensure correct payments are received.
* Assist individuals with budgeting and financial queries, particularly those with mental health needs, self-neglect histories, or other complex conditions.
* Build and maintain positive relationships using a Strength-Based Approach to promote independence and well-being.
* Assess individual needs and coordinate support to help people remain in the community and delay the need for long-term care.
Essential Experience Required
* Experience working with vulnerable adults, particularly those with mental health issues, disabilities, or complex needs.
* Strong understanding of financial management and benefits systems, including DWP processes.
* Proven ability to manage sensitive financial information with confidentiality and accuracy.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport.
* Experience conducting audits and reconciling financial records.
Essential Qualification Required
* Relevant qualification in Social Care, Finance, or a related field (e.g., NVQ Level 3 or above).
* Knowledge of the Mental Capacity Act and safeguarding procedures.
* Training in financial procedures and benefit systems is desirable.
Additional Information
* Working hours: 37 hours a week.
* Enhanced DBS clearance required.
* Location: Trent Bridge House, Fox Road, Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, NG2 6BJ, United Kingdom.
* These roles are anticipated to run until the end of March 2026.
