About the Practice: My client is a well-established and respected accountancy practice with a loyal client base across the agricultural sector, including farmers, landowners, and rural professionals. The firm is known for its personal service and in-depth understanding of the unique challenges faced by those in farming and rural business. As the firm continues to grow, they are looking to appoint a reliable and experienced Accounts Assistant / Bookkeeper to support their team and client base. Role Overview: This role would suit a proactive and detail-oriented bookkeeper or accounts assistant with experience working in a UK accountancy practice. Youll be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records and supporting a portfolio of rural and agricultural clients with day-to-day accounting tasks. Key Responsibilities: Perform regular bookkeeping for clients using cloud-based software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, etc.) Prepare and submit VAT returns, including handling sector-specific VAT schemes (e.g. flat rate for farmers) Assist with preparing year-end files for accountants Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and control accounts Maintain purchase and sales ledgers Liaise directly with clients to request records and clarify queries Provide support to clients moving to cloud accounting systems Keep accurate and well-organised digital records in line with HMRC requirements (MTD) Occasionally assist with payroll processing or CIS returns (if experienced) Ideal Candidate Profile: Experience in a practice-based bookkeeping or accounts assistant role Strong working knowledge of VAT and bookkeeping principles Previous experience with agricultural or rural clients would be a strong advantage Confident using cloud-based accounting software (Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, etc.) Organised, accurate, and comfortable working independently Excellent communication skills and a client-focused approach AAT qualified or qualified by experience A background or interest in farming or rural life is a bonus but not essential Whats on Offer: A supportive and flexible working environment Opportunities to develop your skills and grow within the firm A friendly, down-to-earth team with a passion for working with rural clients Competitive salary and benefits package To Apply: Please send your CV and a short cover letter to [Insert Application Email/Link].
