Position Overview:
As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and managing complex mechanical design projects, ensuring high-quality results in line with customer requirements and industry standards. You will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers. Key Responsibilities:
Lead the mechanical design process for a variety of projects, from concept through to completion, ensuring designs meet functional, safety, and regulatory requirements.
Produce detailed mechanical drawings, CAD models, and technical specifications.
Work closely with cross-functional teams (electrical, software, and systems engineers) to ensure seamless integration of designs.
Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers, helping to develop their skills and capabilities.
Collaborate with the project management team to define project scope, deliverables, and timelines, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budget.
Conduct design reviews, feasibility studies, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate potential issues.
Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to source materials, components, and services, ensuring quality and cost-effectiveness.
Oversee prototype builds and support testing and validation phases.
Keep abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices to continuously improve design processes.Essential Skills & Qualifications:
A degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Significant experience (5+ years) in mechanical design, preferably within a similar industry (automotive, aerospace, defence, industrial).
Strong proficiency in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar).
Solid understanding of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
Experience in leading design teams and mentoring junior engineers.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including assembly, machining, and injection moulding.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
A proactive and solution-focused mindset with a hands-on approach.Desirable Skills & Qualifications:
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
Experience with FEA (Finite Element Analysis) or CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) tools.
Knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, CE, MIL-STD).
Experience in designing for high-volume or high-complexity manufacturing environments.Benefits:
