About the role
Booker Group is recruiting for a Head of Trade for Produce. In this role, you will manage a strategic, high-profile category with full end-to-end accountability for delivering sales, customer satisfaction, and profit targets.
You will be part of the senior team with daily responsibility for direct reports and a broader team of category managers, assistant buyers, and category assistants. This role covers a complex supply base with multiple need states, involving strategic projects related to retail and catering, such as supply chain transformation, requiring cross-functional stakeholder engagement and leadership.
Main Responsibilities
1. Negotiating annually with suppliers to ensure competitive terms and coaching the team accordingly.
2. Developing and implementing category plans to meet key metrics for catering and retail.
3. Delivering cash profit and customer satisfaction targets.
4. Ensuring best-in-class inbound supplier service levels for distribution centers and branches.
5. Creating strategic plans and working cross-functionally to execute them.
6. Leading the category team, managing performance, and supporting team development through PDPs and JDIs, promoting Booker’s values of inclusion and growth.
7. Growing own brand business through sourcing and innovation to increase sales and margins.
8. Optimizing product range distribution across estates to maximize the mix and principles of good, better, best.
9. Identifying opportunities for operational improvements as part of the senior team.
10. Collaborating with finance to produce reliable forecasts for relevant categories.
11. Seeking opportunities to reduce Booker’s environmental impact.
12. Upholding the Business Code of Conduct, acting with integrity, championing diversity, ethics, and inclusion.
13. Conducting negotiations in compliance with GSCOP guidelines.
14. Deputizing for the Director of Trading when needed and cascading information appropriately.
You will need
* Experience in category management within produce.
* Compliance with legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
* In-depth supply chain knowledge.
* Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
* Understanding of branch and network processes.
* Experience working with multi-site customers, including top 10% clients.
* Ability to develop new markets and understand market developments.
* Strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
* Strong leadership qualities to develop talent and manage performance.
* Experience in FMCG, including managing customer marketing campaigns and heading buying teams.
* A proven track record of working autonomously.
