Contract: Permanent Salary: HC07 £31,067 - £35,235 (plus Market Forces Supplement £4,278 per annum) Hours: 37 Location: Hereford Closing Date: 15/08/2025 The Role Herefordshire Council are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Tree Officer to join our Natural Environment Team. The Tree Officer role will include carrying out site visits to assess the health and amenity of existing trees, particularly those within Conservation Areas, covered by Tree Preservation Orders or assessing trees that may become protected. This is then followed up by providing clear and concise reports and decisions in line with national guidance, planning policy and legislation. You will also provide arboricultural advice on planning applications and support the enforcement team in relation to their investigations on tree matters. You will work with other teams across the council to help implement the recently produced Herefordshire Tree, Hedgerow and Woodland Strategy and the developing Local Nature Recovery Strategy. You will be part of the Natural Environment team comprising; Ecology, Landscape, Trees and Public Open Space and will work closely with colleagues in the Development Management, Strategic Planning and Enforcement teams, as well as other environmental specialists. About You As a Tree Officer you will have: An understanding of the role of a tree officer in a local planning authority and demonstrable experience of providing arboricultural advice. Strong knowledge of planning policy, regulatory issues and current legislation in regard to works to trees in Conservation Areas and Tree Preservation Orders. An understanding of tree health, cultivation and management and knowledge of pests and diseases. The ability to work under your own initiative as well as within a team, often to tight deadlines and on multiple work streams. Ability to undertake site surveys, sometimes on rough terrain and with a driving licence to travel throughout the county.
