JOB OVERVIEW
CATS Academy Boston seeks a student-centered, operationally strong leader to serve in a joint role: Assistant Director of Residential Life (ADRL) during the academic year and Summer School Center Director during the summer. The ADRL builds a safe, healthy, and inclusive residential community and ensures high-quality care, compliance, and engagement in on-campus residences. As Summer School Center Director, the role manages the end-to-end summer center operation, including safeguarding, staffing, quality control, and client satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
A. Assistant Director of Residential Life (School Year) Community & Student Support
Foster a welcoming, inclusive community for residential students; build strong partnerships with students, families, and colleagues.
In partnership with the Director of Residential Life (DRL), monitor student academic progress and wellness; coordinate support with the School Counselor and residential team.
Serve as advisor to a cohort of students; communicate proactively with parents/guardians as needed.
Act as lead administrator for Residential Life in the DRL’s absence. Safety, Compliance & Operations
With the DRL, manage dorm policies and safety plans; run drills (fire/evacuation), maintain incident logs, and ensure policy adherence.
Update and enforce the Residential Student Handbook and Residential Staff Handbook/Operations Manual annually.
Supervise and coach residential staff/houseparents; manage duty schedules; uphold professional standards and a positive residential culture.
Oversee room checks, key control, move-in/move-out, and community standards. Facilities Stewardship
Lead weekly walkthroughs of residence facilities; generate and track work orders.
Maintain asset lists/room inventories and cleanliness/health standards.
Coordinate life-safety compliance (e.g., egress, alarms, sanitation) with Operations.
Data & Reporting
Maintain accurate, confidential records (incidents, wellness checks, medications, inventories).
Provide weekly dashboards on conduct trends, wellness referrals, maintenance, and community engagement.
B. Summer School Center Director (Summer)
Center Leadership
Manage the summer center to deliver a high-quality, safe, and scalable program aligned with program guidelines.
Monitor all aspects of operations; set clear procedures; solve problems quickly and effectively.
Coordinate academic and activities programs to ensure integration and consistency.
People & Quality
Oversee the Center Management Team; recruit, schedule, train, and performance-manage seasonal staff.
Serve as the Designated Safeguarding Person; ensure student welfare, risk management, and incident response.
Drive quality control and customer satisfaction; lead daily briefings, walkthroughs, and client relationship management.
Operations, Budget & Compliance
Manage schedules, rosters, transportation, meal coordination, vendor relations, and inventory.
Maintain cost controls and accurate records (attendance, hours, purchases, incidents, inspections).
Ensure facility readiness pre-arrival and efficient close-down/post-program reporting.
C. Facilities: FCI, Condition Assessments & Readiness (Year-Round)
Lead biannual facility condition assessments for residences and summer spaces; document deficiencies and corrective actions.
Maintain and report the Facility Condition Index (FCI) for residential facilities; partner with Operations to plan and prioritize repairs, preventive maintenance, and life-safety items.
Produce quarterly facility condition reports (FCI trends, work-order closure rates, deferred maintenance log, risk items).
Coordinate with vendors and internal teams to ensure timely completion and verification of remedial work.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Student safety/compliance: Incident response times, audit findings, medication and documentation accuracy.
Community outcomes: Student/parent satisfaction, engagement participation, conduct trends.
Operational efficiency: Labor adherence to schedule, budget vs. actuals (summer center), inventory accuracy, cost controls.
Facilities: FCI trend improvement, work-order closure rates, pass results on health/fire/safety inspections.
Staff outcomes: Hiring timeliness, training completion, retention, performance feedback.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Required
Bachelor’s degree and 3+ years’ experience in residential life, youth programming, camp/ELS/summer center management, or related field.
Demonstrated supervisory experience and team leadership.
Strong operational discipline: scheduling, cost control, inventory, and compliance.
Excellent judgment in student care, crisis management, and family communication.
Proficiency with Google Workspace/Microsoft Office; comfort with student life or incidentmanagement systems.
CPR/First Aid (or ability to obtain prior to start); valid driver’s license; ability to live on campus and work evenings/weekends/on-call.
