Due to the secure nature of the programme, you will need to hold UK Security Clearance or be eligible to go through this clearance. This is a hybrid position but being based near to Bristol would be an advantage.
Your future duties and responsibilities:
In this role, you will take technical ownership of a key government platform supporting key imports and exports the UK and Northern Ireland. You will lead the technical recovery of a complex system, addressing performance and quality challenges while ensuring the platform is robust, scalable, and ready for go-live. Working closely with the client, delivery leadership, and a multidisciplinary team of around 15 engineers, you will guide technical decision-making and foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
You will balance hands-on technical leadership with strategic oversight, supporting engineers, influencing architectural direction, and ensuring delivery aligns with CGI’s high standards. This is a client-facing role where your ability to communicate clearly, lead with confidence, and support others will be critical to programme success.
Key responsibilities
•Lead & Own technical recovery activities, improving system performance, stability, and quality
•Guide & Support engineers through hands-on leadership, mentoring, and code review
•Design & Deliver scalable solutions using modern JavaScript and cloud-native technologies
•Collaborate & Influence stakeholders, ensuring transparency and shared ownership of outcomes
•Optimise & Improve CI/CD pipelines, testing strategies, and infrastructure as code
•Ensure & Uphold engineering best practices, security standards, and delivery governance
Required qualifications to be successful in this role:
To succeed, you will bring strong technical leadership experience within modern web and cloud environments, along with the confidence to operate in a client-facing delivery role. You will be comfortable taking ownership of complex technical challenges, supporting teams through change, and delivering high-quality outcomes in a regulated environment.
Essential qualifications
•Strong experience leading delivery using TypeScript and JavaScript
•Proven expertise with React and Next.js in production environments
•Solid experience with PostgreSQL and data-driven applications
•Hands-on use of AWS, Docker, and infrastructure as code (Terraform)
•Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions
•Experience working in agile, multidisciplinary delivery teams
Desirable qualifications
•Experience with NestJS and tf-scaffold
•Performance testing with k6
•Automated testing using Playwright and React Testing Library
•UI development and documentation using Storybook
