We have an exciting opportunity to join the IT Services Department as Technical Lead for Cloud and Security (Cloud and Storage Services) working hybrid. IT Services is a key department that ensures that the University has robust, reliable and high-performing IT facilities it requires to support the distinctive needs of those engaged in teaching, learning, research and administration. This post provides leadership for the Cloud and Storage Services team within Infrastructure Services. This role also offers the opportunity for hybrid working. About the Role
8. This post provides technical leadership focused on public cloud and information security for the Cloud and Storage Services team within Infrastructure Services. The post works closely with other technical leaders under the aegis of the Technical Architecture and Leadership virtual team. You will take a leading role in defining technical strategy, design, development and delivery, management and the continual improvement of systems providing IT services to the University. The post holder will be expected to work across a number of technologies and systems, as well as engaging with stakeholders, architects, colleagues and 3rd party suppliers to define strategic technical approaches to platforms, system integration, and IT operations management.
9. You will contribute to both service delivery and service development – the latter via projects or similar activities. You may also be required to provide technical oversight or coordination for a project, ensuring that technical elements meet the delivery requirements. The role encompasses some combination of technical architecture, technical expertise and technical coordination.
10. You will be expected to participate in the day-to-day technical delivery of services and supporting platforms as a member of a service team. The postholder is also expected, on occasion, to contribute technical expertise and consultancy to other parts of the University.
11. This post reports to the Team Leader. The Cloud and Storage Services team is responsible for providing reliable, robust and secure virtual infrastructure, storage and backup services for the University and colleges, including the University Hybrid Cloud service, the Secondary Storage (Scality) service, the HFS (aka Storage Protect) Backup service and the CrashPlan backup service. Cloud services are expected to develop to include the management of third-party cloud-based infrastructure services (e.g. provided by Amazon Web Services or Microsoft Azure). The team provides technical leadership for cloud, storage and backup strategy.
12. The postholder takes a leading role in the service design, delivery and management of systems providing critical services to the University.
About You
13. You will have proven expertise in providing leadership to technical teams, including recruitment, staff development and performance management.
14. You will have a good understanding of the processes and recommended practice associated with IT service management and familiarity with IT systems lifecycle management, from design, through to implementation and management.
15. You will have the ability to develop strategy for IT service operations, with particular emphasis on the infrastructure required to meet service levels, taking account of current and emerging organisational requirements and initiatives as well as emerging developments in related technology. Combined with excellent communications skills, including the presentation of complex ideas to a variety of audiences, and the production of accurate written documentation.
