NRL is recruiting for an Area Engineering Lead at Hinkley Point C
At Hinkley Point C (HPC), our client is building two new nuclear reactors, the first in a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, providing low-carbon electricity for around six million homes.
As an Area Engineering Lead, you will join Nuclear New Builds’ (NNB) Technical Directorate to work on-site with NNB’s Joint Design Office.
Your role involves assisting the Area Engineering Manager and coordinating all engineering disciplines to support the construction of a specific area. You will manage Designers’ deliverables, coordinate design changes, monitor configuration control, respond to site queries, and close open design points.
Responsibilities include:
1. Acting as the lead point of contact for a defined plant area scope, managing a small design team.
2. Collaborating with delivery and construction teams to gather requirements, define scope, schedule, and prioritize engineering tasks to meet site needs.
3. Managing multi-disciplinary interfaces and mediating project decisions when necessary.
4. Working with Design, Contractor, and Construction teams to ensure technical quality, safety, and adherence to schedules.
5. Coordinating interfaces and open points to finalize design and construction changes before schedules are affected.
6. Accepting Design Packages for a plant scope area, ensuring they meet functional requirements.
7. Identifying issues affecting Nuclear Safety and ensuring compliance with quality procedures.
8. Reporting risks and interfaces to the Engineering Manager and facilitating issue resolution.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Degree or equivalent experience in an Engineering Discipline, preferably Civil or Structural.
2. Experience in designing Infrastructure, Civil, and Structural works.
3. Proven stakeholder management skills.
4. Experience in site Engineering and managing design change processes.
5. Understanding of Contract Management, NEC, CDM Regulations, etc.
6. Experience in regulated industries is desirable.
7. Familiarity with BIM software such as Navisworks, Tekla, or Revit is desirable.
