This role offers an opportunity for an experienced electrical engineer to assure all electrical activity, provide technical guidance, and ensure statutory compliance across multiple flood & coastal risk management and Water, Land & Biodiversity assets. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with construction and design partners, acting as the knowledgeable client representative. You will be a key member within the EA’s national network of senior engineers, supporting national electrical assurance and safety initiatives.
You will provide design and technical advice to ensure compliance with electrical legislation, British and European standards, and EA’s codes of practice and procedures.
Given several high voltage assets in the area, you will serve as Senior Appointed Person (High Voltage). Experience and training with high voltage equipment are essential. Certification will be via the Environment Agency’s appointed authorising engineer. You will join our group of HV engineers working across the EA.
You will also oversee the technical competence of staff, identify areas for development, and contribute to planning and delivering asset investments, including flood protection for communities and the environment.
Incident response is part of the role, with available training and additional pay for incident support.
The team:
You will work within the MEICA Operations team for the South-East Supra Area, covering Hertfordshire, North London, Kent, South London, and East Sussex. The team covers MEICA (Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation) projects, providing technical assurance and maintenance support.
Experience and skills required
* A full UK driving licence is essential.
* Based near Welwyn Garden City or Maidstone, with work across London and the home counties.
* Recognised professional electrical engineer (Chartered or Incorporated, IET or IMechE member).
* Qualified in the operation, maintenance, and safe management of high voltage equipment, with HV Appointed Person certification.
* Knowledge of electrical legislation, British and European standards, UK H&S Acts, and CDM Regulations.
* Experience with computerised maintenance management systems.
* Experience managing/testing electrical and instrumentation installations, including site work.
* Leadership in safety investigations and knowledge dissemination.
* Ability to ensure safety, drive innovation, efficiency, safety, and quality.

Salary: £52,929 p.a. (plus £9,750 p.a. for Chartered MEICA engineers). London weighting may apply.

Work location is flexible, with a designated EA Office near your home. UK driving license required for site visits. Interviews on 8th September at Welwyn Garden City or via MS Teams.
