Are you passionate about helping organisations do the right thing for customers, stay compliant, and navigate a fast‑changing regulatory landscape? We’re looking for a Compliance Policy Support Consultant to help us continue delivering great customer outcomes while keeping the Society safe and sound. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with the required competencies, who is passionate about enabling great outcomes, to build or develop their compliance skillset.

Who Are We?

Not just another building society. Not just another job.

We're the fourth biggest building society in the UK and what makes us a bit different is that we're a mutual organisation. We don't have shareholders; we're owned by our members.

Our colleagues say Skipton's a great place to work, and you could be one of them, bringing with you new ideas on how we can keep customers at the heart of what we do.

Whatever your background, and whatever your goals, we'll help you take the next step towards a better future.

The Team You Will Be Joining

You’ll be joining our Compliance team comprising of 22 colleagues and that includes monitoring and policy roles. You’ll be working closely with seven experienced compliance policy professionals within the wider Compliance team and Group Risk function, giving you the benefit of close‑knit specialist support while staying connected to the broader risk community.

Reporting directly to the Data Protection Manager, you’ll work alongside the Compliance Policy Lead, Senior Compliance Policy Consultants and colleagues across the Homes and Money (Commercial) businesses to interpret regulatory developments, provide second‑line oversight, and help the organisation deliver good customer outcomes. With a strong culture of collaboration, learning and continuous improvement, it’s an excellent environment to develop your regulatory knowledge and grow your career.

What Will You Be Doing?

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

1. Support Senior Compliance Policy Consultants with the delivery of compliance activities.
2. Identify, summarise and communicate regulatory developments impacting the Homes and Money businesses, supporting the Senior Compliance Policy Consultant’s work with stakeholders to implement regulatory change.
3. Help first line colleagues build their understanding of conduct and data protection regulation.
4. Assist in providing clear advice, guidance, and second‑line oversight on regulatory compliance.
5. Contribute to the timely and accurate submission of regulatory notifications and applications on behalf of the Homes and Money businesses, including variations of permission and data protection breaches.
6. Provide compliance input into change initiatives and ensure processes remain aligned to regulatory expectations.
7. Support the development and maintenance of constructive and positive stakeholder relationships and share key updates with the wider Compliance team as appropriate.
8. Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Group Risk function to contribute to a joined‑up approach to second‑line risk management and oversight.

What Do We Need From You?

We’re looking for someone who can demonstrate the following:

Skills

9. Ability to apply regulatory knowledge pragmatically with a customer‑outcome focus.
10. Strong written skills, capable of producing clear and concise regulatory summaries.
11. Effective communication- listening, verbal and written.
12. Ability to build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally.
13. Confidence to influence and persuade others, including the ability to challenge back to the business where appropriate.
14. Someone who is not solely process‑driven, able to think beyond constraints, exercise sound judgement, and take a balanced approach to decision‑making.
15. Ability to work independently while supporting wider team objectives.

Knowledge & Experience

16. Recent experience in an FCA‑regulated environment.
17. Practical exposure to conduct risk and at least one area of FCA Conduct regulation and data protection.

Qualifications

18. Relevant compliance or data protection qualifications are welcome but not essential.

What’s In It For You?

Skipton values work/life balance and we are proud to support hybrid and flexible working, where possible. We have a newly refurbished head office which offers a vibrant and collaborative working space.

We have a range of other benefits available to you including:

19. Annual discretionary bonus scheme

25. A commitment to training and development
26. Private medical insurance for all our colleagues
27. 3 paid volunteering days per annum
