Learning Disabilities Clinical Nurse Specialist
Due to an expansion in the team an exciting opportunity has arisen within the Gateshead health for Learning Disabilities CNS to be a key senior member of the Learning disabilities team
The successful applicant will be working alongside the established Learning Disability Team to develop, initiate, lead and manage clinical assessment, formulation and interventions, staff training and special projects consistent with the aims of the Trust, service plan and service operational policy.
This post is open to any Learning Disabilities trained Nurse or any Adult or Children training nurses with lived experience in learning disabilities
Main duties of the job
To lead the provision of education and training to clinical staff and demonstrates a high degree of professional nursing skill, competency and knowledge of the patient with a learning disability.
To improve the quality of care received by individuals with a learning disability in the acute hospital setting.
To lead and coordinate the delivery and development of pathways for patients with learning disability, through the use of effective evidence based practice in line with agreed national standards for patient safety and clinical practice and local protocols.
To manage the interface between mainstream general hospital services, primary care services and community specialist disability services.
To work autonomously and be accountable for the planning and delivery of all aspects of patient care in relation to learning disability and as set out in the NMC code

Job responsibilities
Lead the provision of specialist clinical knowledge and advice to other nursing staff, the wider multi-professional team, allied health professionals, patients and their families/carers and partner organisations
Lead the provision of education and training for nursing and allied health professionals; including health promotion
In collaboration with the multi-professional team co-ordinate and develop pathways for patients with learning disability.
Co-ordinate the care of patients with learning disabilities.
