Job Summary
Perform all types of work involved with the installation, rearrangement, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical transmission and distribution facilities. All items apply to overhead and underground, as applicable. Employee may perform miscellaneous, related, and incidental work in addition to that specifically outlined below. The Line Mechanic A builds upon the skills, abilities, and knowledge learned as a Line Mechanic B (or equivalent).
Job Description
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Assemble, install, maintain, remove, and competently inspect overhead and underground facilities including conductors, cables, transformers, fixtures, structures, and other associated equipment under immediate or general supervision as skill level dictates.
2. After completion of C-100, or equivalent experience, perform work on conductors and equipment energized up to 260 volts under general supervision. Assist with work on conductors and equipment energized at secondary voltages to 600 volts under immediate supervision.
3. After completion of C-100, or equivalent experience, test, de-energize, ground URD cable, splice and terminate URD cable, and troubleshoot, repair, and energize URD cable and equipment under supervision.
4. After completion of C-200, or equivalent experience, work on conductors and equipment energized up to 600 volts under general supervision. Use volt meters, amp meters, ground meggers, continuity testers, and other electrical test equipment.
5. After completion of C-200, or equivalent experience, cover up stationary tied-in primary conductors and equipment under direct supervision.
6. After completion of C-300, or equivalent experience, cover up, transfer, or move primary conductors and equipment under direct supervision.
7. After completion of C-400, or equivalent experience, perform duties outlined in the B classification during the first twelve months, including assisting with energized lines, cables, and equipment, progressing from direct to immediate supervision as skills develop.
8. Build and erect equipment mountings and overhead transformer installations.
9. Conduct proper tagging procedures while switching energized circuits.
10. Perform inspection and troubleshooting of lines.
11. Perform similar or less skilled work as assigned.
12. Direct the work of employees assigned to assist.
13. Complete Monthly Apprentice Cards and submit for review.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
* High school diploma or GED.
* Minimum of one year distribution electrical power line work experience or related line experience as defined.
* Valid Class A CDL license.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
* Have performed duties of and possess qualifications of Line Mechanic D or equivalent, qualifying through demonstration, exam, or performance appraisal.
* Ability and desire to acquire knowledge and skills for this key job, qualifying as above.
* Within a set timeframe, acquire qualifications for the next higher classification or vacate the current one.
* Physical abilities assessment required.

Grade: U040-150
Range: $29.39-31.03 USD
The Physical Demand Level is Heavy Work, requiring exertion of 50-100 pounds occasionally, 25-50 pounds frequently, and more than negligible up to 20 pounds constantly.
